IE jobless rate makes seasonal rise to 5.5%
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Unemployment surged ahead a full percentage point in June - a typical seasonal adjustment as schools and colleges adjourned for the summer and other workers left their jobs for extended vacations.

The Inland Empire’s jobless rate rose to 5.5% which compared to 6.3% in June 2016.

The State Employment Development Department (EDD) said that the leisure and hospitality sector was down by 3,200 jobs for the greatest month-over employment decline. But, construction added the greatest number of jobs.

Over the past 12-months, construction led the region’s 3.4 percent job growth.

Nine other industry sectors recorded year-over gains, the EDD reported Friday.
