Domestic violence arrest leads to councilman's resignation
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – Freshman City Councilman John Burnard is stepping down just two years after his election to represent the Seventh Ward.

Burnard’s resignation was revealed during Tuesday’s regular City Council meeting in which he disclosed ‘challenges of a personal nature’ affecting his health and his family.

Burnard was reportedly arrested July 3rd in Lake Havasu City, Arizona in a domestic violence incident. He had been drinking at the time.

Burnard will leave his City Council seat August 8th.

He’d represented the La Sierra area replacing long-time councilman Steve Adams in 2015. He was described as a small business owner.
