Vandals strike at Riverside DPSS building
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – Water damage is extensive following the arson of a County Department of Public Social Services building on Reynolds Road late Saturday night.
According to a statement from the Riverside Fire Department, “Fire crews entered the structure and found evidence of vandalism. They also discovered one automatic sprinkler head that had gone off and contained the fire to the office area where a chair and other material had been ignited. Firefighters searched the entire 21,000 square foot office building looking for any occupants, and any other signs of fire. Once the building had been searched, the sprinkler system was shut down, and fire crews began remove large amounts of water from the building. The city of Riverside Fire Departments Arson Task Force responded and investigated the suspicious fire. A representative from the County of Riverside arrived and took over the cleanup effort. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries as a result of the incident.”
There was no information on possible suspects. There were no immediate loss estimates.
