Officer awarded Congressional Badge of Bravery BEAUMONT – (INT) – A local police officer was awarded the Congressional Badge of Bravery Thursday for his actions in the December 2015 terrorist attack at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino.
During a ceremony at the Beaumont Civic Center, Officer Nicholas Koahou was singled out for his extraordinary acts of bravery and willingness to save the lives of others without regard to his own personal safety. During an exchange of gunfire with the assailants, Officer Koahou was shot in the left leg while rescuing a pinned-down deputy. Despite his severe wound, Officer Koahou continued to return fire.
