Inland accidents claim eight lives
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Two pedestrians are the latest victims in a rash of fatal traffic mishaps across the inland region that have claimed at least eight lives.

The coroner says that Renail Ashley Pride, 22, was the victim of a hit-run driver in downtown San Bernardino Sunday night. She was crossing Waterman Avenue at Fifth Street when she was hit.

In Eastvale, a toddler was fatally injured on Hamner Avenue. Sheriff’s deputies say the 2-year-old suffered serious head injuries and died later at a hospital. The incident appeared to be an accident.

Two weekend accidents occurred on the Ortega Highway just inside Riverside County. One early Sunday involved a motorcycle and an SUV and claimed the life of a 22-year-old Stewart West of Oceanside. Calfire reported a vehicle ran off the highway and overturned killing Jonathan Gonzalez, 17, of Anaheim.

Elsewhere on Highway 74, a 2-vehicle crash in Homeland Sunday killed a 58-year-old man, David Quinn of Homeland.

Near San Jacinto, weekend accidents claimed two more lives. A witness said the young driver of a sedan turned in front of an oncoming truck on the Ramona Expressway. The fiery impact killed Jarred Taverney, 18, of San Jacinto. On Sunday, a reckless driver caused a 3-vehicle crash on Route 79 just south of Gilman Springs Road. One person was killed and three others were hurt.

In the San Bernardino Mountains, an older Lexus overturned on Route 38 in Angelus Oaks. The driver, Christopher Moe, 22, of Tustin, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
