La Nina could bring drier winter to California
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – Climatologists are now leaning toward a La Nina winter for California which would not likely bring a repeat of last winter’s generous rain and snowfall.

The Climate Prediction Center based its outlook on the recent cooling of sea surface temperatures in the mid-Pacific and what it says is “a higher degree of forecast skill”.

In its outlook issued Thursday, the center called for a 55%-60% chance of drier La Nina conditions in the Northern Hemisphere this fall and winter.

During the winter of 2016-17, above-normal precipitation ended California’s 6-year drought.
