Robber faces 50 years for 6-month crime spree
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – An Indio man may go down as the most prolific robber in Riverside County history.

A second Superior Court jury says that Sergio Lopez, 37, was the bandit who went on a 6-month crime spree in 2010 and 2011 that stretched from Temecula to the Coachella Valley. Lopez targeted shoe and clothing stores, hair salons and barber shops as well as sandwich and yogurt shops.

Initially, Lopez was linked to 78 robberies occurring on 18 different dates. Prosecutors filed more than 250 charges against him.

A jury Thursday convicted Lopez on 50 counts. In 2014, another jury found him guilty of 20 charges. Lopez is facing 50 years in prison at his sentencing November 17th.

Losses at each of his stick-ups ranged from $1,500 to a couple of hundred dollars.
