Ortega Highway claims another motorcyclist
LAKE ELSINORE – (INT) – Another motorcyclist perished Monday on the Ortega Highway just a day after two others were killed in a head-on collision.

Monday’s mishap west of Grand Avenue involved the motorcyclist and an SUV. CalFire reported another person suffered minor injuries.

The crash blocked the twisting mountain highway backing up commuter traffic in both directions. The CHP said that Nash Kenji, 42, of Beaumont was driving at excessive speed when his motorcycle crossed the center line and into the path of the SUV.

On Sunday, two men from Orange County were killed in a head-on collision of their motorcycles on the Ortega Highway.

California Highway Patrol reports released Monday indicated that one crossed the center line on a curve and into the path of the other. The impact closed Highway 74 near the landmark Candy Store.

The coroner Monday identified the victims as Gilbert Banuelos, 24, of La Habra and Andre Dang, 27, of Buena Park.

The Ortega Highway is a popular commuter alternative linking Riverside and south Orange County.
