New locomotives debut on Metrolink’s San Bernardino line
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – Metrolink debuted its new Tier 4 locomotives Thursday, the cleanest fuel-powered locomotives in the nation.

The first of 40 locomotives rolled into service on the San Bernardino Line, Metrolink’s busiest. Metrolink says the trains will rotate throughout the system to ensure that the entire region benefits from the new clean locomotives.

Metrolink Board Chairman Andrew F. Kotyuk says the locomotives “are the result of a regional partnership that will benefit all of Southern California.”

The locomotives reduce emissions by up to 85% compared to the oldest ones.

They are enhanced with the latest Positive Train Control for safety and on-board engine diagnostics that are expected to reduce delays caused by mechanical issues on trains.
