Holiday weekend traffic death toll reaches nine
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Nine people lost their lives over the 3-day Columbus Day weekend on the streets and highways of the Inland Empire.
The toll included six fatalities in San Bernardino County and three in Riverside County.
Among the four drivers was an Arizona man who perished when a tire blew out on his pick-up truck in Apple Valley. A young Redlands man was killed in that city Monday when his car hit a curb, a tree and a fire hydrant.
A pedestrian lost her life when she stepped into a crosswalk in Chino and another was the victim of a hit-run driver on Main Street in Hesperia. Two more pedestrians were killed late Monday in Moreno Valley and Phelan.
A motorcyclist was thrown to his death when he struck a disabled vehicle that had spun out on Interstate 10 in Rialto.
