California State Rail Plan unveiled
SACRAMENTO — Caltrans has released a draft of the California State Rail Plan, which outlines a new framework for California’s rail network.
The Rail Plan sets the stage for improved rail connections in the state for the next 20 years and beyond.
Unlike prior plans, it envisions faster and more frequent service, customer-friendly timed multi-modal connections, integrated ticketing and trip planning, and increased reliability of travel in congested corridors around the state. The plan outlines connections to most communities in California at least every hour throughout the day. It also highlights the need for a rail system to be expanded to handle a growing volume of freight.
Caltrans is seeking public input throughout the planning process. The public comment period ends December 11th.
Caltrans will host seven public workshops across the state including November 14th at the Santa Fe Depot in San Bernardino.
