Horror dominates the Box Office
HOLLYWOOD - “Blade Runner 2049” is the leader of the worldwide box office this week, despite finishing in a distant second domestically to “Happy Death Day.”

The long-awaited sequel starring Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling has struggled to make up for its massive budget. Warner Bros. is distributing the film domestically, while Sony is handling the overseas rollout.

“Blade Runner 2049” is not the highest grossing movie at the international box office. That title goes to Chinese sports comedy “Never Say Die.”

“Happy Death Day” has cause for celebration.
The latest from Blumhouse and Universal is leading the domestic box office this week. A horror spin on “Groundhog Day,” “Happy Death Day” centers on Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) as a woman who wakes up to the same day — her birthday — every day, and is murdered every time. Christopher B. Landon directed the film based on a script by Scott Lobdell.

“It” remains in the top five this week as horror continues to dominate the box office.

Among the rest of the top 10 movies is Universal’s “American Made”; Fox’s “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”; Warner Bros.’ “The Lego Ninjago Movie”; Lionsgate’s “My Little Pony: The Movie”; and Focus Features’ “Victoria and Abdul”. )Sources; Variety and The Hollywood Reporter)
