Joblessness slackens, September brings seasonal improvement INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) - Government recorded the largest employment increase across the region last month as schools and colleges got back into session. An estimated 5,500 jobs were added. Local government accounted for 93 percent of the increase.
Over the past 12 months, construction led the Inland Empire’s employment growth. Overall, the State Employment Development Department (EDD) said 35,100 jobs were added to local payrolls. Approximately 85 percent of the job growth was concentrated in specialty trade contractors. Unemployment took a corresponding dip down to 5.4 percent, the first decrease for the Inland Empire in 4-months. Among area cities and communities, September’s unemployment ranged from a low of 2.8 percent in Loma Linda to 13.8 percent in Cabazon. Story Date: October 23, 2017
