Bribery and arson plots snare Adelanto councilman
ADELANTO – Allegations of arson and bribery have surfaced resulting in the arrest of a City Council member.
The FBI has arrested Jermaine Wright in a pair of schemes in which he allegedly propositioned two undercover agents.
According to the US Attorney’s office, Wright solicited and accepted a $10,000 bribe from one undercover agent who told Wright he wanted Wright’s assistance in a rezoning and code enforcement issue involving a purported marijuana transportation business.
In the other scheme, Wright allegedly paid $1,500 to another FBI undercover agent to burn down his restaurant called Fat Boyz Grill in order to collect $300,000 in insurance proceeds. Wright allegedly provided a ladder to the agent and discussed ways to maximize the fire damage.
If convicted, Wright, 42, could face up to 30 years in prison.
