RIVERSIDE – (INT) - Twelve basketball players from an Orange County high school were among 15 people hurt in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday on the 91 freeway.

The injuries were minor to major.

The van from Newport Christian School was among seven vehicles that were involved.

A California Highway Patrol investigation determined that the driver of the van, Terrell Thorogood, was unable to avoid traffic that had stopped causing a chain-reaction series of rear-end collisions.

The mishap closed the eastbound lanes near Adams Street for an hour.
