Site cleared for vehicle emission testing and research lab
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – Design work is complete and construction will start this coming summer on the Southern California headquarters for the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

It will be situated on a 19-acre site on Iowa Avenue near the campus of UC Riverside.

The facility will be one of the largest and most advanced vehicle emissions testing and research facilities in the world. It will also be the largest ‘net-zero energy’ structure (producing as much energy as it uses) of its type in the nation.

Parking for as many as 460 employees will include at least 120 electric vehicle charging stations and public parking will include electric vehicle charging stations and at least one DC fast-charge station.

About one-third of the facility’s $368 million cost is earmarked for specialized testing and laboratory equipment.

It replaces CARB’s aging Haagen-Smit Laboratory in El Monte.
