RIVERSIDE - (INT) – UC Riverside has announced the passing of Frank Lindeburg, one of the university’s original staff members.

Lindeburg died November 9th.

Affectionately known as ‘Lindy’, he was hired as UCR’s men’s basketball coach in 1954. He served as the faculty advisor to the first class of students and helped lay the iconic ‘C’ on the Box Springs Mountains overlooking the campus.

Lindeburg later became athletic director and was elected to the UC Riverside Athletic Hall of Fame.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
