County aims to wage full court press on repeat offenders
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – County Supervisors Chairman Robert Lovingood is calling for year-round pressure throughout the county on repeat offenders.

In an op-ed, Lovingood wrote that “criminals are destroying our neighborhoods…the result of policies created by Sacramento that reduce criminal sentences and release inmates, putting more criminals on our streets.”

Lovingood is calling for “Desert Guardian”-style operations around the county all year long with targeted enforcement focused on repeat offenders.

The supervisor is advocating for a phased staffing plan to open the remaining portion of the Sheriff’s High Desert Detention Center to house more inmates. “With a price tag of about $30 million a year, that will be a heavy lift,” he said.

Earlier this year, the Board of Supervisors passed $1 million in supplemental funding for the sheriff’s department.
