Manslaughter charge follows Tour de Palm Springs crash
INDIO – (INT) – A Desert Hot Springs motorist has been charged with vehicular manslaughter for plowing into a group of bicyclists during the Tour de Palm Springs last weekend. One was killed and two others injured in Saturday’s incident at Indio Hills.

Ronnie Huerta, Jr., 21, was driving on a suspended license when he lost control of his speeding car on Dillon Road. Huerta was arrested, but is free on bail.

The coroner Sunday identified the fatality as Mark Kristofferson, 54, of Lake Stevens, WA.

A witness told the Highway Patrol that the motorist was speeding and driving the wrong-way. The car ran off the highway and overturned injuring the driver.

The incident happened during the 100 mile Escape the City Lights Ride segment of the 2-day Tour de Palm Springs.
