Teachers ask Trump to intervene over classroom guns
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – Californias sixty-one ‘teachers of the year’ have sent an open letter to President Trump opposing efforts to arm teachers.
They called for the elimination of military-style assault weapons from our communities, and providing increased access to mental health services.
The letter urges states to follow California’s example by creating gun violence restraining orders, also known as Red Flag Laws, which allow family members and the police to ask a judge to remove weapons and ammunition from a relative who poses a threat.
A number of California Teachers of the Year have put out a video opposing arming teachers. That video and other ones are on YouTube.
