Shop owner arrested for shooting at thieves
SAN JACINTO – (INT) – A shop owner is jailed on suspicion of shooting at a pair of, apparently unarmed, thieves as they drove from his store without paying for two boxes of butane fuel.
Nabeel Qandah, 42, had tried to stop the thieves as they jumped into an awaiting vehicle late Monday morning.
One of the thieves, Juan Macias, 41, of San Jacinto, later showed up at a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his arm. Macias and a 16-year-old boy who accompanied him will be charged with burglary.
Sheriff’s deputies admonished Qandah for being irresponsible as a gun owner and will seek charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
