Joblessness fades, more communities below 3%
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – For the first time in recent memory, the region’s jobless rate fell below that of California’s.

The State Employment Development Department Friday put the IE’s February jobless rate at 4.4 percent---one-tenth of a point below the state average.

Over the past 12-months, the Inland Empire added 55,900 jobs for a 3.9 percent gain. Since the beginning of this year, construction added the most jobs, especially among specialty trade contractors.

Trade, transportation, and utilities were also among the fastest growth leaders.

With the exception of January, unemployment in the Inland Empire has fallen every month since last summer.

Communities with unemployment below 3-percent include Canyon Lake, Chino Hills, Loma Linda, Crestline-Lake Arrowhead, Wrightwood and Rancho Mirage.
