Oxidation becomes faster, cheaper wastewater treatment
RIVERSIDE – (INT) - Researchers at UC Riverside have discovered a method to dramatically improve the way pollutants are removed from wastewater using Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs).

AOPs are a group of chemical treatment processes that use oxidation to remove organic materials from water. The reactions are performed by hydroxyl radicals (•OH) created by the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide, a powerful oxidizing agent that is used in both household and industrial settings.

AOP technologies are an appealing way to recycle contaminated wastewater, since the end products of hydrogen peroxide decomposition are water and oxygen.
