WalletHub: California among ‘greenest’ states
With another Earth Day coming up Sunday, the personal finance website WalletHub compared the states on their environmental initiatives. California did relatively well.

WalletHub reasons that our environmental and financial needs are the same in many areas: providing ourselves with sustainable, clean drinking water and food, for example. We also spend money through our own consumption and taxes in support of environmental security.

California was third-greenest nationwide for energy consumption per capita and recycling municipal solid waste. California was the only state in the west among the top 10 ‘greenest’.

California stumbled, however, when it came to air quality, ranking at the bottom.

WalletHub compared each of the 50 states on 23 key metrics. The data set ranged from LEED-certified buildings per capita to share of energy consumption from renewable resources.
