DESERT CENTER – (INT) – Unrelated accidents Thursday in the Riverside County desert killed one person and injured at least five others.

Police were chasing a female motorist for speeding in a construction zone near Desert Center. A crash involving three trucks and a car ended the pursuit on Interstate 10. Two of the trucks caught fire.

Calfire reported that five people were hurt including a California Highway Patrol officer.

Near Palm Springs, a vehicle ran off Highway 111 and overturned in the Whitewater River. The driver perished. She was identified as Alexis Sanchez, 21, of Palm Springs.
