Holiday traffic death toll reached eight
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Ontario police say that alcohol was a contributing factor in a late Monday night vehicle mishap in which a young mother struck her infant daughter. Police say the father was holding the child as he stood outside their home on ‘D’ Street. The 7-month-old child died at a hospital. The mother was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Local authorities report the deaths of three people in Jurupa Valley traffic mishaps over the Memorial Day weekend. Drugs or alcohol was involved in one of the incidents.

A 2-vehicle crash on Limonite Avenue killed one of the drivers, Anna Humphreys, 56, of Riverside. At least three other people were hurt.

The coroner reports that Marcos Bravo, 32, of Jurupa Valley died early Monday on Hall Avenue. Sheriff's investigators said Thursday that Bravo was on a skateboard when a hit-run motorist struck him.

Earlier, Albert Zaragoza, 41, of Jurupa Valley lost his life while trying to cross Van Buren Boulevard at Bellegrave Avenue.

The victims were among eight people who were killed on the streets and highways of the Inland Empire during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. During the same holiday last year, there were eleven traffic fatalities. Statewide, DUI arrests were up and fatalities were down.
