Weekend traffic death toll reaches nine
INLAND EMPIRE - (INT) - Three pedestrians are among nine people who lost their lives on the streets and highways of the Inland Empire over the weekend.

A crash Sunday night on the 91 freeway near Lincoln Avenue in Corona claimed one pedestrian. Two vehicles were involved and the driver of one, Joshua Ortiz, 24, of Covina, tried to run from the scene, but was hit by a vehicle. All westbound lanes were closed for a time, the CHP said Monday.

Pedestrians were killed in Highland and Indio. The Highland incident involved a DUI-hit and run motorist.

Three people were killed when the driver of an SUV lost control causing his vehicle to overturn on Interstate 15 north of Newberry Springs.

Another crash early Sunday on the I-40 west of Needles involved several vehicles and at least one fatality.

A late Friday night incident at the 91-215 interchange in Riverside claimed another life.
