Triple murder trial moves to penalty phase
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – The penalty phase of a trial for two men convicted in a triple murder began Monday.

A Superior Court jury last Wednesday found Jesus Urzua and Emmanuel Pimentel guilty in the slayings of three young men and the wounding of two others.

The incident in July 2011 occurred when a hail of gunfire ripped through a San Bernardino mobile home park (on West Highland Avenue). Killed were Jesus Tiburiso, Ruden Sanchez and Evaristo Conreras.

Prosecutors said the motive was to benefit a street gang.

Witnesses enabled police to locate and arrest Urzua and Pimentel. The murder weapons were recovered.

Jurors will be asked to decide if the defendants should suffer the death penalty or spend life in prison without parole. The penalty phase of the trial is expected to last three weeks.
