Inland Empire population grows, but getting older
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – New Census Bureau figures attest to Riverside County’s dramatic growth.

Riverside County was the 10th largest in the nation at just over 2.4 million as of 2017. It was also the third largest-gaining adding nearly 37,000 residents in just one year.

When Riverside and San Bernardino counties are combined, the Inland Empire was the nation’s 7th largest-gaining metropolitan area surpassing the 4-and-a-half-million mark in 2017. The Inland Empire was the only California metro area to make the nation’s top ten. Six of the top ten largest-gaining were in Texas.

The Census Bureau also found a majority of nation’s counties continued to grow older reaching 38 years during the period 2010 to 2017. In Riverside County, the media age hit 38. In San Bernardino County, it’s 33.6 years. The aging of the country is consistent with the projected changes to the nation’s population through 2060.
