Algae-infested Diamond Valley Lake closed to recreation
HEMET - (INT) - Recreational activities at Diamond Valley Lake are suspended until a bloom of cyanobacteria—also known as blue-green algae—subsides.

Boating, fishing and hiking, are not allowed by the owner of the lake, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), until further notice.

Water quality experts are offering assurances that the quality of the district’s treated drinking water has not been affected although the algae covers the lake. The MWD is not currently using the lake as a drinking water source.

“This is a recreation issue, not a drinking water issue,” said Dr. Mic Stewart, Metropolitan’s water quality manager. “We don’t want folks coming into contact with or fishing in this water,” Stewart said.
