Fireworks, heat wave bring new health warnings
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – In the first advisory of its kind, the AQMD warns that both public and private fireworks are expected to create unhealthful air quality throughout the South Coast Air Basin.
The advisory Wednesday evening through Thursday morning calls for elevated levels of particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), to become unhealthy for sensitive people.
The AQMD says that smoke and combustion products from fireworks add to the fine particles already present in the air.
A predicted heat wave is likely to prolong an advisory for elevated concentrations of ozone in the afternoons and evenings through the holiday into the upcoming weekend in many inland areas.
