Four fires flare in San Diego County
ALPINE - (INT) - In an ominous start to the summer fire season, emergency crews are battling blazes in different parts of San Diego County. The largest one hop-scotched through parched canyons in Alpine, destroying 20 structures. At least twelve were homes.
The fast-moving fire near Interstate 8 and West Willows Road sent people racing to evacuate. By nightfall, fire crews were able to stop the flames from continuing to spread forward.
Dubbed the West fire, it was the largest of three brush fires reported in San Diego County. Three other fires are currently burning in the Camp Pendleton area in San Diego County. The largest has covered about 1,200 acres.
Governor Brown issued an emergency proclamation for San Diego County due to the effects of the West Fire.
