School board member arrested, takes leave of absence
MORENO VALLEY – (INT) – Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) board member Evan Morgan is taking a leave of absence.
In a statement posted Monday on the MVUSD website, Morgan disclosed that he was arrested in Corona June 20th for a “personal situation involving a dispute between adults” not involving his elected position or the school district.
Morgan expressed doubts he would be charged with a serious crime and that he was stepping aside from his school board duties to avoid any disruptions.
Morgan’s arrest was publicized on social media.
The incident follows that of former school board member Mike Rios. Rios was sentenced to prison in 2013 on pimping charges and was forced to resign from the school board. Nine of the charges were later thrown out by a California appellate court. Rios remained imprisoned.
