RIVERSIDE – (INT) – A final interview panel is expected to choose the next Riverside County fire chief by August 1st, according to County Supervisor Kevin Jeffries.

Dan Talbot has been acting as the interim county fire chief since John Hawkins was removed from his post in January, but was still working for Calfire, at that time.

Hawkins, who was appointed in 2006, was popular with his rank-and-file and many local government leaders.

No reasons were given for Hawkins’ termination.
