Two children saved from locked, overheated car
REDLANDS – (INT) – A police corporal is being honored for pulling two children from a locked vehicle where the interior temperature was estimated at 138 degrees.

Cpl. Breanna Herrera responded to the Mountain Grove shopping center last Saturday and found a 2-year-old boy lethargic and in obvious distress and a three-week-old infant who was not moving.

Cpl. Herrera broke a front window, removed the children and rendered medical aid as paramedics arrived.

During the commotion, the mother Danielle Marie Sulprizio, showed up explaining she had locked her keys in the car and that the children had only been inside the vehicle for a short time. Witnesses, however, told Cpl. Herrera that the children had been in the vehicle for at least 15 minutes.

They were taken to a hospital in stable condition. The mother was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment.

Cpl. Herrera was recognized by Redlands City Manager N. Enrique Martinez and Chief of Police Christopher R. Catren for her quick work.
