Schools open as Holy Fire defies full containment
GLEN IVY – (INT) – Weary firefighters have pushed back until August 26th full containment of the Holy Fire.

More fire fighters are being released with the remaining few striving to encircle the 23,000 acre burn area in the Cleveland National Forest. They say that difficult, inaccessible terrain made full containment Tuesday impossible.

The latest stats from a damage assessment team show that 12 single family residences were destroyed in Orange County and six homes were lost in Riverside County. The only injuries were to fire fighters.

All evacuations have been lifted and Highway 74 (Ortega Highway) linking Riverside and Orange counties is open.

The opening of the new school year for many students in Corona was delayed a week until Monday because of the fire’s ash and smoke.

All trails, recreational areas and campgrounds in the fire area are closed. This includes Blue Jay and Falcon Campgrounds, Holy Jim trails and Trabuco Canyon and areas north of the Ortega Hwy and south of Blackstar Canyon Rd/Skyline Drive.
