San Gorgonio Wilderness reopens for hikers
FOREST FALLS – (INT) – Although not officially controlled, July’s Valley Fire has been subdued to the point that a public closure area has reopened. .
Trails reopened in the San Gorgonio Wilderness include San Bernardino Peak, Momyer (pronounced Mo-Meyer) and Foresee Creek. Previously booked permits for overnight camping in the wilderness are valid.
The 1,350-acre fire is considered 82 percent surrounded in steep, inaccessible mountain terrain.
Intense, dry summer heat has not produced any new smoke or active fire.
The Valley Fire is considered 82 percent contained with full control not likely until the first significant precipitation this fall or winter. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
