Memorial for radio personality Alfredo Gonzalez
MENTONE – (INT) – A memorial service for longtime Spanish radio announcer and station manager Alfredo Gonzalez will be held Sunday.

Gonzalez, 84, died at his Redlands’ home August 14th.

His Inland Empire radio career spanned nearly 60 years and began in 1958 when Redlands-based KCAL (1410AM) introduced Spanish-language programming to the San Bernardino-Riverside area.

Gonzalez later managed the station and made numerous public appearances hosting fund-raisers, award banquets and other public events throughout the local region.

In 2007, he was honored by San Bernardino County with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work on KCSB TV, Channel 3.

Gonzalez retired in 2017 as a host of a regular public affairs program for Lazer Broadcasting.

Sunday’s memorial is at 2pm at the Mentone Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1230 Olivine Avenue, Mentone.
