Mishaps claim lives of six pedestrians
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – It’s been a deadly weekend for pedestrians around the Inland Empire.
Five have lost their lives on the streets and freeways and a sixth was struck and killed by a train.
In Ontario Monday evening, a man was struck and killed on Interstate 10 when a motorist said the victim jumped in front of her vehicle.
Earlier, the California Highway Patrol said that Taylor Matich, 28, of Beaumont was walking on Interstate 10 near Veile Avenue in the middle of the night when he was struck by three vehicles.
Traffic mishaps at opposite ends of San Bernardino early Saturday killed two pedestrians. Uriel Garcia Ramos, 36, of Redlands perished when he stepped from a disabled pick-up truck on Interstate 10 near Tippicanoe Avenue and was hit by a passing car. Two hours later, Chrystal Lanae Murray, 42, of Riverside was found dead on Baseline Street. The coroner said she suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
Earlier in Victorville, 51-year-old Shan Dee Quick of Victorville was struck and killed on Amethyst Road.
In Riverside, police say that a pedestrian was struck down Sunday evening while walking on the railroad tracks near Marlborough and Chicago avenues.
