SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – California Highway Patrol investigators say they worked day and night to find a suspect and her vehicle for the hit-run death of a 14-year-old student.

They announced Monday the arrest of Charlean Larue Welch, 55, of San Bernardino.

Jade Maldonado was struck and fatally injured in a crosswalk on Pacific Street September 28th. The driver of an older SUV sped from the scene without stopping. Welch was the alleged driver of the tan GMC SUV.

Investigators did not say in a statement when or where Welch was arrested. But, they thanked several citizens and the broadcast and social media for spreading information about the incident.
