Cause of Mt.Baldy helicopter crash listed
MT. BALDY – (INT) – The crash of a helicopter on snow-capped Mt. Baldy nearly 2-years ago has been blamed on the 26-year-old pilot.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) concluded that the flight of a small Robinson helicopter from the Fullerton Airport to a landing on the 10,000 foot high peak exceeded the helicopter’s capability.
Three passengers suffered minor injuries and the pilot, a flight instructor with a commercial pilot’s license, was more seriously hurt.
The NTSB in its final report stated the pilot failed to maintain main rotor speed during a low orbiting approach to the summit on the day of the incident, December 29th, 2016.
