Festival of Lights glowing brighter than ever
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – The city’s signature event, the Festival of Lights, is glowing brightly.
It’s the 26th edition that traditionally marks the holiday season. More than 75,000 spectators surrounded the Mission Inn to watch 5 million holiday lights flicker on as 400 animatronic figures came to life at Friday's switch-on ceremony.
Singer Robin Thicke was in concert with a fireworks display for the opening ceremony.
“The Festival of Lights represents the best of Riverside – our history, our commitment to family and our desire to be together in a joyous season,” Mayor Rusty Bailey said.
More than 750,000 people will visit Riverside during the iconic six-week festival which ends January 6th.
Metrolink is offering special train service to Riverside through December 15th.
