Study: California trying better at protecting the elderly
SACRAMENTO (INT) California ranks last among all fifty states in elder abuse protection.

WalletHub compared the states across 14 key metrics. The data set ranges from share of elder-abuse, gross-neglect and exploitation complaints to presence of financial elder-abuse laws.

States with the best elder-abuse protections were Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Nevada, Michigan and Arizona.

California came in at 16th place for total expenditures on elder abuse prevention.

By one estimate, elder abuse affects as many as 5 million Americans per year, and more than 95 percent of all cases go unreported.
