Influenza claims 4-year-old child
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – A 4-year-old Riverside County child is the second juvenile to die of influenza in California this flu season.
County health officials announced the death Wednesday and said the child had not received a flu shot and had no underlying health issues.
Last year (2017-18), there were 23 flu-associated deaths in Riverside County of individuals 64 or younger. There were 80,000 flu deaths nationally in that age group.
Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser noted that children are particularly susceptible to influenza. He recommends that everyone 6-months of age and older get a flu shot.
