Sandbagging for winter storms
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Areas cities are inviting residents in areas of potential flash flooding to stock up on sandbags.

In Moreno Valley, empty sandbags and loose sand is available at many locations throughout the city. Sandbags are limited to 25 per resident unless special circumstances require more. They may be picked up at local fire stations and at the City Yard Main Office on Perris Boulevard.

Redlands has a limited supply of sandbags at no cost to local residents and businesses. Up to 10 empty sandbags are available per location within the City limits at each of the city’s fire stations. Areas of Redlands prone to flooding include city streets and in the Zanja and San Timoteo Canyon areas.

Before and during storms, residents are encouraged to take precautions to protect private property, including:

• Check rain gutters and drains to make sure they are clear of debris to help keep water from building up on or around your home.
• Make sure all irrigation systems are OFF to avoid adding to already saturated areas.
• If you have experienced land movement around your home, watch for water or natural gas leaks associated with shifting soils. While relatively uncommon, an ongoing water leak can compound flood conditions.
