Undocumented immigrants couldn't avoid government shutdown
SAN DIEGO – (INT) – Statistics submitted by the Border Patrol shows its agents continued their enforcement activities in the San Diego Sector during the 35-day government shutdown.
It made 4,824 arrests and seized more than 661 pounds of narcotics.
Among the undocumented immigrants, 1,933 were Mexican nationals plus 2,891 nationals from other countries. They included 1,493 from family units and 315 who were unaccompanied juveniles
Among the drugs seizures were 54 pounds of methamphetamine, 224 pounds of cocaine, 338 ounces of heroin, and 44 pounds of fentanyl. In total, the narcotics had estimated street value of more than $10 million, the Border Patrol estimated
