Hail, frost mark cold snap as storms depart
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – The coldest temperatures of the winter are filtering into the Inland Empire capping 5-days of turbulent weather. Only a little warming is on deck in the coming days.

As showers were winding down Tuesday, Winter Storm Warnings in the mountains were in their final hours only to be replaced with frost advisories.

Tuesday's sporadic showers were accompanied by hail that clattered down in a few communities including Perris.

Schools in the Bear Valley Unified School District, including the Fallsvale School in Forest Falls, were closed Tuesday because of the storm. SR 18 was closed until 4 pm due to fallen tree/wires for repair north of Big Bear Dam.

Meantime, a motorist who died last weekend when his car ended up in a flooded Yucca Valley wash has been identified as Earl John Schmitt, 76, a resident of Loxahatchee, Florida.

Looking ahead, fair but brisk weather will prevail for the balance of the week. Chances for more rain this weekend are put at 40 percent as a low pressure trough forms over the western states.
