Storm-damaged streets reopening in Palm Springs
PALM SPRINGS – (INT) – Clean-up and road repairs are shifting into high gear in the wake of of the Valentine's Day storm that dealt the desert resort and the Coachella Valley a crippling blow.

Route 111, one of the gateways into Palm Springs, was reopened late Sunday. Caltrans awarded a $3.5 million contract to replace a section of the highway that was washed out. Rocks and boulders have been removed at Windy Point.

Some roads crossing the Whitewater Wash remain closed because of water, rocks and mud.

A spokesman at the Palm Springs Serial Tramway said the tourist attraction will remain closed because of storm damage.

Rainfall In the Valentine’s Day storm exceeded 3-and-a-half inches at Palm Springs which is nearly the average for an entire year.
