Stubborn Coachella Valley fire finally contained
COACHELLA – (INT) – The season’s first Inland Empire wildfire of the year was finally contained Thursday evening.

It covered 564 acres at Mecca at the lower end of the Coachella Valley at last estimate.

Flames consumed 20-foot tall tamarisk trees, desert brush and 6-foot-deep mulch piles.

Two homes were evacuated and two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Authorities have not listed a cause for the fire that broke out last Friday evening.
