Footprints lead to missing hikers in Cucamonga Canyon
MT. BALDY – (INT) – An extensive air and ground search was culminated late Wednesday night with the successful rescue of two hikers missing in the rugged high country between Mt. Baldy and Cucamonga Peak.
A search team discovered two sets of footprints that led into Cucamonga Canyon. Eric Desplinter,33, of Chino Hills and Gabrielle Wallace, 31, of Rancho Cucamonga were located near a campfire. They were hoisted aboard a rescue helicopter and reunited with their families at the Mt. Baldy Fire Station.
Since they were reported missing last weekend, searchers covered 30 square miles of rugged mountain terrain.
San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon thanked volunteers for “being a real blessing” and “providing thousands of hours giving back to make our communities better and stronger.”
